Rainy Night Romance: The Best at-home Date Ideas

Updated: Jun 13

While we all love to go somewhere nice and romantic for date night, sometimes the UK weather has other ideas. Sudden downpours can keep you trapped inside, but that doesn’t mean date night has to be postponed.

In fact, there are plenty of romantic date ideas you can use from the comfort of your own home! So next time you’re stuck inside, try one of these top ideas instead.

Raining days

Indoor picnic by candlelight

If you were already planning a picnic, you can easily adapt it to be a romantic indoor date instead.

To set up for the perfect picnic date night, you can lay out a blanket in your living room, adorned with various finger foods or charcuterie boards. We recommend picking things that will suit you and your partner’s tastes, so consider what food they might enjoy. We also highly recommend lighting candles and placing them around the room, although you must avoid placing them in areas where they could get knocked over. Candlelight helps to create an intimate and romantic space, which is the perfect setting for your indoor picnic date night.

To take it one step further, you could also play some music on a speaker. You want to make sure the volume is low so you and the other can still talk and enjoy each other's company, but keep the music audible.

Couples’ movie marathon

Instead of heading out to the big screen, try making a little one at home. You and your partner can first decide on a theme, whether it’s something romantic, nostalgic classics, foreign films, or something completely different.

Once that’s decided, it’s time to create your own mini cinema. You can make popcorn, bring cosy blankets down to the sofa, and dim the lights. If you want to go the extra mile, why not create a homemade ‘entry ticket’ for your date night?

Cook or bake together

Whether you’re experts in the kitchen or total novices, cooking or baking together can be an exhilarating experience. We recommend you and your partner pick a new recipe that neither of you has tried before, and turn your kitchen into a gorgeous date space.

You could try making your own pizzas from scratch or baking a dessert for later. Whatever you decide to make, remember to have fun and enjoy the process.

Couples’ games

Of course, if you’re indoors, then you could always have a cosy games night with your partner. You might want to break out a couple’s card game or find a list of deep questions to spark in-depth conversations. Alternatively, you could play more competitive games like bingo or other console two player games.

If you’re having trouble deciding, ask your partner what types of games they’d feel comfortable trying. This can give you a baseline of things to try, and you can work from there.
